Manual Therapy is any “hands-on” treatment provided by a qualified physiotherapist. Treatment may include passively moving joints in specific directions and at different speeds to regain normal movement, muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part, or having the patient move the body part against the physiotherapist’s resistance to improve muscle activation and timing. Selected specific soft tissue techniques may also be used to improve the mobility and function of tissue and muscles. Manipulative Therapy is more commonly understood as the “cracking” of a joint that a qualified practitioner uses as treatment to encourage joints that are “stuck” to move normally. Physiotherapy manipulative techniques are high velocity, low amplitude thrust techniques. |
